WORKSHOPS:
9:00 – 10:15 AM
Dulcimer Reboot
You’re tired of playing the same-old same-old, but you don’t seem to be making enough improvement to tackle some new, more advanced stuff. You feel like you’ve just been spinning your wheels and have no idea what to do about it. You feel like you’ve been STUCK on the same level forever. And worse, you’re just not having fun anymore. If this describes you even just a little tiny bit, then these workshops are exactly the refresher you need to get off that plateau and move to the next level. We’ll start by reviewing and fixing any faulty right-hand and left-hand techniques, and we’ll take steps toward building some new repertoire.
10:30 – 11:45 AM
Tackling a Brand New Song, part A
The musical elements of good playing are exactly the same for the beginner as they are for the advanced player. Knowing how to count and play rhythm accurately are probably at the top of that list, followed by developing good sightreading and practicing skills, and learning how to play with expression and confidence. Among other things, we’ll all learn a brand new song that no one has ever played before, and it will sound terrific!
11:45 AM – 1:00 PM – Lunch (on your own)
1:00 – 2:15 PM
Tackling a Brand New Song, part B
(See description under part A, above)
2:30 – 3:45 PM
Just for Fun!
We’ll pull everything together and apply your new skills to some brand new stuff! We’ll run through some new ensemble arrangements (you’ll sound like the NY Philharmonic!), we’ll do some jazzy-bluesy stuff, we’ll play a couple of Christmas songs, we’ll play some rounds like you’ve never heard them before, and we’ll sing and play along with the ice cream truck!! Whee!!
4:00 PM – Concert
What other events do we offer?
Throughout the year, we provide additional opportunities to enjoy the mountain dulcimer — either through all-day workshops or concerts by performers who are traveling through our area. During the past few years, Tull Glazener, Dave Haas, Bing Futch, and Butch Ross have presented all-day workshop series, and often given a concert at the end of the day. Concerts are open to the public, with a free-will offering requested.
Whenever we have a day of workshops or a concert scheduled throughout the year, you will find full information on this page.
